Biggest Cyber Camp in Iona!

Hi!
I took this video yesterday at our Cyber Camp, we had 9 kids of all different ages, it was very busy. Take a look at a few things we did. I did a little bit of editing, just to make it presentable. Enjoy!

FYI- I will show you the finished product of the C@P Quilt next week after our last Cyber Camp. Every week we get the kids to draw something they did or liked at the the C@P Site and I put them on a bulletin board, laid out like a quilt, patches and different colours.

Wildlife of Boularderie Week!Cyber Camp!

Last week we had a chance to do a "Wildlife at Boularderie" theme for our weekly cyber camps, and one of my co-workers who helps us us happens to have some animals that he brought with him. After the animals left we had some great volunteers to help us out with a small play. So here is the video enjoy!

Tip of the Day

When making your videos in Windows Movie Maker save the files you use in the same place so they are easy to find. Once you have used them in your video, do not move them until your video is published as a movie. If moved, they will not load in your video and you will have to do your work all over again.

Hello Everyone,
It is wonderful starting the week on a Tuesday! I thought I would put a post on here about the Mosaics and the videos for vccaps. I sent out the email as promised on Friday, keep that email handy for deadlines and information.
I edited my VCCAPS video today, I think all I need is music and some fine tuning.

Cyber Camper Video!!

This was the first week of Cyber Camp at Boularderie. The first week's theme was internet safety. So we got the kids to make a happy,sad or angry mask during craft time,and after they were finished we done a short little play with all the kids. C@P Day in Victoria County!

Everyone had great plans for their C@P Days. It was not a nice day so we did not really get the turn outs we had hoped for, but that is alright. Great job to everyone and this is the update I received from everyone!

BAY ST.LAWRENCE
On C@P Day in Bay St. Lawrence, the library was holding an event on the same day so I took advantage of the kids being present. We did games and activities outside, there was cake served to the kids as well as some prizes. Then I took the kids inside the C@P site, and had them play some games on the computer. I showed them some new websites to play games on and let a couple of them make Facebook accounts, with permission from their parents. They had lots of fun and most spent the day hanging around the Site!

BOULARDERIE
C@P day was celebrated at our Cyber Camp at Boularderie on July 14th. We played a game on internet safety (badguypatrol.ca) and we did the blowing in the wind craft. We also took advantage of our new Flip cameras by making videos of the kids running around the gym using their wind crafts.

IONA
At our C@P DAY we had a great time with all the kids, even though not many showed up. They all came at around 12:00 and at that time they made paper bag animal puppets! They did a very good job and they had a great time doing it! After that we made them ice-cream sundaes, they loved that! We used the gym in the school for fun and games because the weather was not cooperating. When they got tired we made play-dough then we had a contest to see who could make the best sculpture, they all won and received prizes.

Mosaic Summer Project

Do not be stressed about the Summer Mosaic Project, it is meant to be fun and to help build your skills with the camera and video editing software. It will be awesome to see everyone's video at the end of your filming and editing. In the Helpful Links page there are some useful websites for creating videos and mosaics I would like to invite you to take a look at them and maybe it will spark some inspiration! The finished project will be awesome! Good Luck .

Audacity

Depending on what types of videos you plan on creating using your HD Flip Cameras, you may choose to record your audio separately and overlay it on your video. If so, you will definitely want to checkout Audacity! Audacity is an open source (free) audio editing program. It is a very simple program and easy to learn, but it also has many advanced features. You can download Audacity at: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Alderwood Video and Video Editing Tips

Hi everyone! Here's a short video I created about Alderwood's Positive Aging Photo Day Workshop to demonstrate just how easy it is to create videos. It was filmed with a Flip camera and put together using Windows Movie Maker.

Here are some tips to getting started with basic video editing.

Before Filming:

Plan out your video a bit. Think about what you want to film and possible locations, people, events you can film. For example, in this video I created in 2008 about the history of the Baddeck Library CAP Site, I needed to include things like the basic history, locations, staff, different services and events offered, and the Victoria County Bookmobile.

Make a basic storyboard outlining your film from beginning to end. The short film about Alderwood would have a storyboard like this:

-> introduction
-> program with newspaper ad
-> introducing users of Positive Aging program
-> parts of program (Donna showing camera use, how to show photos on laptop)
-> end with photo

During Filming:

Use a tripod for interviews and to add stability. For most filming, handheld works well.

When interviewing people, film them at an angle that is slightly to the side. Filming from the front is awkward and too direct for viewers.
[You'll notice in my video from 2008 that I didn't follow this rule. Because of this, the interviews seem awkward and too direct. Don't do this!]

When in doubt, film too much! It's easier to edit things down than to re-create or try to add video that isn't there.

After Filming, comes Editing!:

Organize your film clips; put them in order and name each film clip something helpful to the story. For example, if a clip is about the bookmobile, I would name it Bookmobile or something similar. This makes finding a certain clip very easy, especially if you are making a more detailed video or have a lot of clips to use.

Keep all your files in the same folder and always edit on the same computer, if possible. If not, save all files on a USB drive. Windows Movie Maker does not keep copies of your videos or photos; it only accesses them when you are working on a project. So if you try to copy your Movie Maker file to a different computer without also copying all of your video and photo files, it will not work!

Shorten clips to essentials by trimming them down.

Use a mix of video and photo. This adds variety!

Edit the sound by muting clips, removing noise, and adding music. For example, in the Alderwood video, I muted the sound from the first clip of the newspaper ad because someone was talking in the background when I was filming.

Use subtitle frames to display the name of a person or share something about the location or action that is taking place.

Finishing a Movie:

You can publish your file as a finished movie and/or upload to a website to share, like Youtube or Vimeo. Once published, you can email your movie, burn to a DVD, or store it on a thumb drive.

Hope these tips help you out in making your own videos!
